Who Google Meet is best for

Small and mid-sized teams already on Google Workspace who run frequent internal meetings and external sales or client calls. Choose it over Zoom or Teams when you want meetings that launch straight from Google Calendar and Gmail without separate licences.

Key features

  • Browser-based video calls with no install
  • Screen sharing and live captions
  • Recording on Business Standard and above
  • Built into Google Calendar and Gmail

Why it’s worth it

If your team already runs on Google Workspace, it’s effectively free and integrates with everything else you use. Paired with an AI notetaker it covers discovery calls and demos well.

Things to consider

  • Recording and some advanced features are not available on Business Starter
  • Webinar-style features are more limited than dedicated webinar platforms such as Zoom Webinars
  • Some corporate clients block or restrict non-Microsoft meeting links, so keep a backup option

For Australian businesses

Google Workspace, which includes Meet, is billed in Australian dollars for Australian customers.

FAQ

Google Meet: common questions

Is Google Meet free for businesses?

Meet is included in every Google Workspace plan rather than sold separately, so if you already pay for Workspace there is no extra cost. Feature limits such as recording depend on your Workspace tier.

Can people join a Google Meet call without a Google account?

Yes. External guests can join from a browser using the meeting link, without installing anything, although the host may need to admit them.

Google Meet vs Zoom for sales calls?

Meet suits teams on Google Workspace because it is bundled and launches from Calendar. Zoom is more familiar to many external contacts and has stronger webinar options, so some teams keep both.
